JUKI Supplies Needed:

  • JUKI Sewing Machine
  • 3/4 Thread JUKI Serger
  • 1/4″ patchwork foot
  • Walking foot
  • Decorative stitch foot
  • 90/14 sewing machine needle

Fabric and Notions:

  • 34 pcs flannel 5” x 5”
  • Wool fabric for gloves 16” x 11”
  • 9 ½” x 79” long fleece/flannel for lining
  • 3.0 twin needle
  • 2 spools thread to match flannel
  • 4 spools serger thread

Sewing Instructions:

  1. Attach 1/4” patchwork foot to machine.
  2. Insert 90/14 needle.  Thread machine and bobbin with matching thread.
  3. Sew the thirty-four 5” squares together by placing them together 2 across, 17 down, right sides together.  Press seams.
  4. Place the 9 ½” x 79” fleece/flannel on the sewn front, right sides together.
  5. Set up your serger for a 4-thread overlock.
  6. Sew around all four sides leaving a 3” area on one side for turning.

Note:  if you do not have a serger, use an overlock stitch on your sewing machine.  Refer to your user’s manual for the overlock stitches and stitch settings.

  1. Turn the scarf right side out. Gently press the side seams.
  2. Attach zig zag sewing foot and 3.0 twin needle.  Thread your machine for twin needle sewing.  Most machines use the same threading path for both threads and then separate the thread at the thread guides in front of the needle.  Please refer to your user’s manual for specific instructions for your machine.
  3. Topstitch around all four sides being sure you secure the opening for turning.

10. Remove twin needle and attach 90/14 needle.

11. Attach walking foot to machine.

12. Select straight stitch.  On each side of center seam, sew a ¼” topstitch seam.

13. Cut two gloves from your wool fabric using the included pattern.

Note:  You will only have two front sides.  They will be appliqued to the scarf to create the scarf gloves/pockets.

14. Attach decorative stitch foot.

15. Finish the edges of the wool gloves using a satin stitch or an overcasting stitch of your choice.

16. Place the glove fronts onto the right side of the scarf, along the bottom edges.

Note:  You may want to try the scarf on to determine the correct placement for the gloves.

17. Select an applique/blanket stitch on your machine to use for the tack down stitch.  Stitch each glove to the bottom of the scarf using this stitch.  Allow enough space for you to be able to put your hand in the glove/pocket.
